ITC & STSM Calls


Let's got to see how others do geothermal - STSM!

If you are a PhD student, postdoctoral fellow or an employee with clear association to Geothermal-DHC research interest, plan to participate in our Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSM).

Your visit to a host institution in duration from 5 to 90 days should be planned between 1st February 2021 and 15th March 2021.

We offer up to a maximum of EUR 3,500 of financial contribution to cover your overall travel, accommodation and meal expenses.

The second application deadline finishes by 15th January 2021.

You can start preparing the submission by:

  1. Carefully reading the COST Vademecum, Section 8 and the STSM User Guide.
  2. Elaborating your profile on e-COST.
  3. Elaborate your profile on the Yellow Pages of the Geothemal DHC (Yellow Pages).
  4. Preparing your project title, CV, draft of a recommendation letter from HOME and HOST Institution, short motivation and work plan summary, and travel budget

Conference Grants – 2nd Call

ITC (Inclusiveness Target Country) Conference Grants are aimed at supporting PhD students and Early Career Investigators (ECI) from ITC to attend international conferences on the topic of ‘Geothermal Energy for Heating and Cooling’ that are not organised by this COST Action CA18219. The grant provides up to a maximum of EUR 2,500 in total (travel + accommodation, meal + conference registration fees) to each successful applicant.

Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITCs) defined by COST Vademecum are as follows: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Republic of North Macedonia, Republic of Serbia and Turkey.

Early Career Investigator (ECI) is defined as an individual who is within a time span of up to 8 years from the date they obtained their PhD.

It is our pleasure to announce the 3rd call for ITC Conference Grants within the current grant period 2 of our COST Action CA18219. The call is now open, and the deadline is 31st October 2021. The call is ongoing if we do not receive any application considering the Covid crisis, it will remain open until the end of the current grant period.

How to apply:

  1. Applicant must create an account with e-COST.
  2. Applicant must register and fill yellow pages.
  3. Applicant must carefully read the funding rules detailed in the COST Vademecum.
  4. Applicant must carefully read the ITC user guide.
  5. Applicant must submit their application online using e-COST after creating the account.
  6. Applicant must send their ITC application form submitted to e-COST (pdf) and the relevant supporting documents (listed below) to ITC coordinator Prof Rao Martand Singh (rao.m.singh(at) and copy to the WG3 co-leader Dr Nina Rman (Nina.Rman@GEO-ZS.SI) and Action vice-chair Prof Dejan Milenic (
  7. The list of supporting documents to be submitted in pdf format for the evaluation are:
    • The submitted ITC application form (downloadable when the online application is submitted to e-COST)
    • Acceptance letter from the conference organisers confirming either your speaking slot or poster presentation
    • Copy of the abstract or poster submitted to the conference.
    • A CV (including a list of publications – if applicable).

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Applicant must be either a PhD student or ECI from ITC.
  2. The applicant must make an oral/poster presentation at the conference in question and must be listed in the official event/conference programme.
  3. The main subject of the oral/poster presentation at the approved conference must be on the topic of ‘Geothermal Energy for Heating and Cooling’ and must acknowledge COST Action Geothermal-DHC (CA18219). [see COST Vademecum Section 10].
  4. Application must be submitted after the abstract has been approved by conference organizers.
  5. Attendance at European conferences is preferred. However, conferences held elsewhere will be considered.
  6. The participation of each applicant must be pre-approved by the ITC committee consists of ITC coordinator, WG3 co-leader and action vice-chair.
  7. Previously successful applicant to this Cost action should not apply again.
